Login Process

About the 2 Login Types Fast vs Secure:

Right now, the register page and login page are in SSL secured mode, if you got a pop up message telling you the data will be transmitted unsecurely after hiting the login button it's just because on the landing page there is external links pointing to unsecured areas, but it has nothing to do with your current login process.

So you have the fast login form on the homepage,
or
The standard secured login page accessible by the link under the quick login form.

Reggae Auction Main Menu

The menu is made to make you save a lot of time by accessing in one click the right section of the members area when you're browsing the site, or access directly a Reggae Auction* category while in your members area.

It is keyboard accessible, with tab / arrows and Enter button.

It also feature a special fix for Internet Explorer* 6.xx Browsers, so they can access the submenus.
If you don't see any submenus, or think there is something wrong with the display of the menu, then you are certainly using a version of Internet Explorer* 6 that doesn't have the right configuration or you are missing some plug ins :(

If you clik on any sub menu of the My Account menu when you're not logged in, you will be redirected to your default customized landing page.

Take Note: the site is optimized to work perfectly under all versions of Mozilla Firefox* Browsers and Internet Explorer* 7. Upgrading your browser maybe the smartest solution to fully enjoy all Reggae Auction* features!

How To Bid / Buy Now / Swap

If you have spotted on an item you would like to Buy Now, offer a Swap deal or place a Bid on, you can do so quickly and easily by following these steps :

Standard Auctions :

//////To Bid on an Item//////
(1) Login to your account ? If you have not registered yet you can do so within 5 minutes
(2) Visit the auction page, you will see a ?bidding box?
(3) Enter in your bid, note that you must bid above the minimum bid required
(4) Click on the ?place bid? button, you will then be asked to confirm you bid, once you have done so your bid will be entered, if successful you will receive a confirmation message.

If you bid fails to outbid the current high bidder you will be offered the option to place a higher bid. Proxy bidding can aid your chances of winning an auction and help avoid, you being outbid at the last moment. To place a proxy bid enter in the maximum price you are willing to pay for the item. If another user places a bid on the same auction automatic bids will be placed on your behalf in accordance with your maximum bid amount. With proxy bidding you will pay the lowest possible price until someone else places a higher bid.
We Highly recommend that you don't place your bid at the last seconds, as if too much bidders place their bid at same time on the same auction, it could result in a server overload, and in this case your bid may not be accepted by the system in time, and you'll loose the auction.
When you want to update your Bid by bidding again, your proxy bid will be updated, and the system will not show to others you bidded twice on the item, unlike where you know, this means: You avoid jokers bidding on the item knowing you'll still be highest bidder!

On a Dutch auction, you can enter the amount of items you wish to buy (depending the quantity available). If you purchase less than there are available in total, the auction will remain open with the number of items left available after you have purchased the amount you want.

On an auction using the Reserve Price feature: On the auction detail page of the item you can clearly see the feature beeing used or not as the page shows "reserve not met yet" or "reserve is met". The reserve price, is the price under which the seller doesn't want to sell his item. This means that your bid have to be higher than the reserve price set by the seller to win the auction. If your bid is lower than the reserve price set by the seller, the system will notify you on the bidding page that your bid is lower than the reserve and that it's too low to win the auction, giving you the ability to bid again until your bid is higher than the reserve price.
It is not that the seller is not obligated to sell the item if the reserve price is not met, it is totally controled by the system, you can only win the item if your bid is higher than the reserve price. As a buyer you are not shown the reserve price, only whether the reserve has been met. (The bid history page also shows a notation when the reserve price is met.) In case of multiple bidders on a reserve price auction, when the auction closes, the item will sell to the highest bidder who meets or exceeds the reserve price.
If you bid on an item but your bid is lower than the reserve price and loose the auction, the seller have the ability (if he wants to) to send you a fixed price offer for the item, that you can accept or not.

Buy it now auctions and standard auctions with Buy Now feature :

Buy it now prices are set by the seller, if you agree with that price, and want to buy the item, please follow these simple steps:

//////To Buy Now an Item//////
(1) Login to your account ? If you have not registered yet you can do so within 5 minutes
(2) Visit the auction page, you will see a ?Buy Now? logo
(3) Click on the logo or Buy Now Button
(4) On the next step just confirm confirm your purchase, once you have done so just request your invoice, and wait for it to pay the seller or contact him.

Standard auctions or Buy Now auctions with the Swap feature :

//////To offer a Swap for an Item//////
(1) Login to your account ? If you have not registered yet you can do so within 5 minutes
(2) Visit the auction page, you will see a "Offer a Swap Deal" link or logo
(3) Click on the link or logo
(4) On the next step you will see a message box apear, type in your swap deal details needed for the seller to consider your swap offer, once you have done so just wait for the seller's answer.

How To Sell

Once you have signed up for an account, you will be able to sell items through the site.

Your first step to save you a lot of time would be to click on the "selling preferences" link in your member area, to set up entirely your selling preferences so you don't have to fill all the same infos everytime when you want to list an item!
If you choose to receive paypal payments make sure you set up your paypal email on the "Personal Information" page in your members area, because if you fail to do so, buyers won't be able to pay you by paypal through Reggae Auction on the auction detail page and their "won" page!

After that you will just have to click on the ?Sell? link, and you will be redirected . You can then select the main category of the product you want to sell. This feature has been made in order to ease the subcategory choosing process. No items can be sold by choosing only the main category; you will have to choose a subcategory for it.
Just Follow the simple steps, at the end you will review the auction before submitting (don't forget to check the direct payment Paypal box if you want to use that method or it won't work through the site. If everything is in order, you can click on the ?Submit? button, and will be redirected to a confirmation page, all the fees for the listing if there are any will be added automatically to your balance. The auction is activated instantly.
When you select "featured on homepage", please make sure there is no " like in 7"...prefer : 7inch in your title as it make the scroller bug !
During the Sell item Process, at step 2, you have this option : Choose Listing Type, where you can select "Quick listing" if you want to list your item quicker without numerous listing options, or "Full listing" to get all the options...
If you are in the process of listing multiple items of the same type, you can use the "Sell Similar" Link, this will save you a lot of time as everything you specified for the item will be saved, if you choosed to add a picture and a media file, the system will automatically removed them so you save time with just having to upload the new ones!
The Reserve Price feature: when you select this option during the listing procedure, you are beeing asked to enter an amount, this is the amount under wich you do not want to sell your item. It means that if bids doesn't reach that price your item will not be sold!
Anyway in your "ended" page if the auction ends with no winners a link will apear in front of each reserve price auction that received bids, to make a specific price offer to one of the bidders.

The private Auction feature: For ALL Auction types the bidding history will be private wich means users wont be able to see who's bidding on your item, and the auction winner will NOT be shown either, instead you will see N/A.

You can also use the Reggae Auction Bulk Lister to list a lot of items, this Bulk Lister accepts files created in CSV format also, to know everything about how to work with CSV files / the structure of compliant CSV files and the use of our Bulk Lister, please check out : this page

The Bargain Records Category Rules

This category has been created in order to allow you to list and sell in a specific category all the original records that can be common or in average or bad condition with NO Lisitng fee as USUAL and a reasonable FLAT end of auction fee of 0,40 USD, when you actually sell your item.

Because selling a 70's original records at 3 or 7 USD in the Original 70's category with an end of auction fee of 2.00 USD isn't clearly reasonable!

The rules are simple for that category:
- ONLY "Buy It Now" auctions are allowed
- ONLY at a listing "Buy It Now" price EQUAL or UNDER 7 USD (or the equivalent in another currency)

All auctions that will not follow these simple rules will be deleted or moved to the apropriate category!

Sellers who will constantly try to list auctions that do not comply with those rules, will be warned then suspended eventually.

The Make Offer System

A totally "multi usage" system!

There is two distinctive ways to use it:

1) You can mix it up in your auctions how you want:

- Standard auction with make offer
- Standard auction with buy out and make offer
- Buy out only auction with make offer

Just set up your make offer range during the selling procedure to enable it...

it also works with any other feature combinations, Reserve / Make Offer range view / Private auction / Swap feature or anything available that fits your needs!

2) the ultimate "100% secure / no cheat solution":

- Make Offer Only auctions (no buy out or auction start price)

Just click on the "Make Offer Only Auction" check box in the auction type area of the selling procedure on step 3, and set up your range.

You can also decide to show or hide the "Make Offer" range price you choosed!

For sure "Make Offer Only" auctions can also be used as a price evaluation tool for your items, but in this case please specify it clearly in your description or item title to avoid pissing buyers off.

How does it work and why is it 100% secure?

- Every member can make an offer on the item, members can make several offers even if the seller didn't act on the first ones.
- There is a new specific page in seller's member area to manage all his offers, in on click he can check all the offers made on his items and simply reject or accept the offers placed, when an offer is accepted, the auction is closed.
- The buyer also gets a dedicated page to follow up all the offers he places, where he can cancel his offers at anytime, place another one or ask a question directly to the seller.
- All the offers are made in the currency the seller originally selected during the selling process.
- You can use the "private auction" feature with "Make Offer" option, that will make the winning offer and buyer unvisible.
- With "Make Offer Only" auctions, everything (offers / winner / sold price) is private to ensure the auction isn't used to influence other potential buyers or other sales.
- The amounts offered on an item are unvisible on the item page during the auction and after...so nothing can affect in any way other buyers offers!
- Feedbacks are not private, so if you search for it you finally have a way after some time, if feedback is left, to know winner username, to avoid artificial increase of feedback ratings!
- Offers are canceled automatically when the auction ends.
- Sellers will receive email notifications mentioning title of item / price offered and buyer username, so they can instantly decide to take action or not. To follow our New eco friendly project, this gives the oportunity to the seller not to take unnecessary actions on the site, just check his emails and wait for the right offer.
- "Make Offer" sales are also based on a flat end of auction fee, that will be category dependent exactly as other auctions.
- Please note: "Make offer" Auctions are not supported by the bulk lister ( the Reggae Auction mass lister software)

The way the "Make Offer Only" auction works means that the seller have TOTAL control over the selling price, seller can choose not to sell, it is totally risk free!

And as you can see the buyer is also 100% protected when using this system!

The WANTED ADS system

The "Wanted Ads" system is working aside from the auction system on Reggae Auction.

It is designed for buyers to post their "Want list" Online, to notify collectors and sellers that they are searching for an item. They will also benefit from search engines exposure.

Of course to avoid external transactions Sellers can't contact directly members that have posted their want lists using Wanted Ads!

Sellers can browse or search the Wanted Ad Section to check what members wants.

When you have a specific item a Buyer wants:
- You have to create an auction for your item using any feature you want (using the main selling procedure).
- Then you will be able to offer your recently listed item to the potential buyer, directly on the "Wanted Ad" page of the buyer. You will just have to select your item from a dropdown list (of your items for sale) that will apear.

The potential buyer will get an email to notify him of your offer and will be able to see on his "Wanted items" page which items have been offered to him. The potential buyer can then, access the auction page of the coresponding item offered and buy / bid or ask a question to the seller.

Any Seller can offer items (even several offers) on the same wanted ad! So even if an offer have already bee made by another seller, you can still offer your item to the potential buyer.

It's that simple, and of course it's FREE!

How to pay for an item won?

It's all pretty simple, read carefully what payment methods are accepted by the seller on the auction details page.

If a seller accepts Paypal and has set up his account correctly (as stated above), then you will be able to pay, adding shipping and eventually insurance charges, through the site, directly on the auction detail page or in your member area "won" page by using the pay now link...
If it fails this means that the seller didn't set up his account properly and you will have to contact him to know his Paypal address and go directly on Paypal website to make your payment!

For any other payment method, please ask directly your seller:)
when another popular method will be used by a large majority or simply on demand, i will add it to the direct payment function.

Cross-Promotion Connections

In your members area, there is a section under your "My Account" panel, named : Cross-Promotion Connections

This function allows you to cross promote your items with different sellers.
On every auction detail page you have a space called: "OTHER ITEMS FROM THIS SELLER" presenting other items you have for sale!

When you cross promote with an other seller this section is renamed: "CROSS-PROMOTION ITEMS FROM THIS SELLER" wich presents a mix of your personnal items and items for sale by the seller you cross promote with.

You can arrange a cross promotion with multiple sellers to cross-promote each other's items and get exposure to more buyers.
Simply enable your cross promotion feature and send a request to the seller you want, if this seller have enabled his cross promotion feature also he will receive your request and accept or deny it.

The invoice System

You can use it in simple or advanced mode:
- Simple:
Buyer can request an invoice anytime / seller can send the invoice anytime by selecting the appropriate items, Adding correct shipping and insurance.
This will send the invoice to both buyer and seller, with both addresses information they registered with!
Then you do your business your own way using the payment method you want.
- Advanced: (only works with Paypal and ONLY if the buyer have his direct payment method correctly set up in his account)
After getting the invoice, Buyer can use the "Pay Now" link (on his Won page Action Menu)
Add the same shipping and insurance as the invoice.
Follow the steps through the Paypal payment gateway.

Members Area

How to hear the soundclips

On Reggae Auction, all items that have a soundfile associated are shown with a red sound icon just before the title of the item, this icon is here to let you know there is a clip.
You can now click directly on the icon to hear the clip without having to enter auction detail page!!!

Please be sure to have the latest version of WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER PLUGIN INSTALLED FOR YOUR BROWSER in order to play sound files. We recommend you to use Firefox and you can get the firefox plugin by clicking HERE
Quicktime is needed to play movie files.
If the Media doesn't play well, try reloading the auction detail page, if it doesn't work please contact us for specific help, thank you.
NOTE: we regularly delete images and files from the server when auctions are closed or ended, so it could happen that you see the media player bar, and nothing happens when you click the play button.

Auction watch

This feature notifies you of newly listed auctions which contain ?keywords? you have chosen. For example if you are looking for a ?Little John? record you could enter in those keywords from within your member?s area. Each time a new auction is listed containing the term ?Little John? you will be notified via this web-site. You can enter in as many keywords as you like.

Item watching

The item watch feature lets you keep a close eye on any auction without having to place a bid on it. This feature means you can be kept up to date on how an auction is doing and prepares you to place a bid when you feel it. You can watch any auction by clicking on the ?Watch this item? link on any auction page.

Feedback System

Once a sale has been processed, both the seller and the buyer will be able to leave feedbacks for each other. The feedback rating is made of colored stars, and a feedback comment can also be left. The feedback can be left from the ?Feedback Center? Menu in Members Area. The feedback can only be left once, and it cannot be edited afterwards. The site admin will reserve its right to delete malicious or outrageous feedbacks.
You can either Leave Feedback or View Feedback you received from others.

Why leaving feedback is important on Reggae Auction:
Every member has a Feedback Profile, which includes basic information about the member and the Feedback that their trading partners have left for them. Learning to trust a member has a lot to do with what their past buyers or sellers have to say.

For each transaction, buyers and sellers can rate each other by leaving Feedback. Each Feedback consists of a value from 5 to 1, and a short comment.

A buyer can also rate the seller on additional criteria, including accuracy of item description, communication, shipping time, and shipping and handling charges. These detailed seller ratings do not count toward the Feedback Score.

When Browsing through a user's feedback, if there is no username but n/a instead, for a given feedback, this means that this user is no longer a registered user on Reggae Auction.

Let's build the safest community, let's leave Feedback!

How To Search on Reggae Auction

Searching on the site is really easy:

- You can type in directly in the search bar a name of artist for example, and just hit Enter or search button....system will show you the results.

- You also have an advanced search page with 3 separate fields: Auction Search / Search by Seller / Search by Bidder, each with their own search button.
When you got your results, you can choose to display differently the results by clicking on: Start Bid / Last Bid / Buy Out / Bids / Ends in ...

The search module on Reggae Auction includes as default the search for item titles and description, this means that if the word you're searching is used in an item description such as a track list of a compliation CD, the item will show up in search results.

Tip: when using Internet explorer browser, you can't hit "enter" on your keyboard to launch the search as it will not show you the desired result, you have to manually click on the search button!

How to use the drop down menu:

When browsing a category or a subcategory, you can use the drop down menu in the search bar: ending soonest / ending latest / lowest price first / higher price first / news since 3 days / 5days and so on?
Select the one you want and just hit search button to get the items displayed how you want.

The Dispute Console

If you have a problem with a transaction on Reggae Auction, you can start a dispute resolution process. A seller can open an Unpaid Item OR Request a FVF (Final Value Fee) credit and a buyer can open an Item Not Received or Not as Described dispute.
You can find the Dispute Console Link on your member area left menu.

Q: What is the Unpaid Item OR FVF Request report timeframe?
A: It is a period of time when a seller is allowed to open a dispute about an Unpaid Item he sold. An Unpaid Item dispute can be filed between 7 to 45 days after an item ended. 7 will be the min days to report, and 45 will be the max days to report. Always remember, there is always circumstances that might prevent a buyer from completing his transaction timely.

Q: What is Item the Not Received or Not as Described Item report timeframe?
A: It is a period of time when a buyer is allowed to open a dispute about an Item Not Received or Not as Described he bought. This type of dispute can be filed between 20 to 45 days after an item ended. 20 will be the min days to report, and 45 will be the max days to report. Always remember, shipping of an item takes various time, depending on location or shipping carrier accessibility.

Q: What are the UDS and NPBS strikes?
A: The UDS strike stands for an 'Unreconciled Dispute Strike'. It is usually issued towards a seller's account who do not wish to reconcile a dispute caused by reneging on delivery of the correct item or not delivering the correct item at all... The NPBS strike stands for a 'Non-Paying Bidder Strike'. It?s usually issued towards a buyer's account who did not pay or will not pay for his won item... There is a maximum number of 5 strikes per account , when the account reach 5 stirkes it will be suspended. User will be notified by email each time he receives a strike.

Payment of Your Site Fees - Account Suspended

Every first day of each month, you need to manually pay for your site fees.
The system will now automatically check the account balance of each Reggae Auction account, and every user account with any balance will automatically be taken to the payment page. After you made your payment you will be able to proceed again to all your regular activities within your Reggae Auction account, manage your sellings, respond to messages and everything.

This system has been introduced lately to prevent any waste of time and useless email reminders.
If you have current auctions beeing listed on the site, you will have less than 7 days to pay your site fees before the system automatically suspend these auctions.

If you are blocked on the payment page and you have no balance with us, then your account must have been suspended probably for not leaving feedback or not following a dispute started as stated in the terms and conditions.
In this case you are surely already aware of that and previously received an email to notify you. You can contact us through the contact us form or directly to the admin email (the email Reggae Auction uses to send reminders, annoucements...) so we can see what can be done eventually.

Dutch auctions

On a Dutch Auction, the auctioneer has more items of the same product for sale. The bidder will enter a maximum bid he is willing to pay for an item, and the number of items he wants to purchase. The highest bidder(s) will receive the number of items they have bid on, and the remaining bidders will receive the number of items still available. Buyers are able to bid more than once for the same item.
